This research aims to examine the representation of the roots of modern international human rights in undergraduate law textbooks used in western countries.

Human Rights Education is dominated by western-centric explanations of the origins and systems of protection of human rights around the world. While Western understandings are legitimate approaches to human rights, other critical lenses give insight into human rights practices.

Students at The Hague University of Applied Sciences were asked to give their understandings of Global Citizenship during the 2020-2021 academic year. Two short videos were produced and posted on Instagram. View them below by pressing the play icon for each video.

Our idealized history of the foundng of UN human rights mechanisms includes a master narrative revering Eleanor Roosevelt for securing the rights in the UDHS. What happens to the master narrative when we contextualize it with the counter narrative of non hegemons?
